The Seagull is China’s new super mini, and it will cost you $10,000 US.The Seagull is a bit pink and cheesy on the interior. But the exterior isn’t half bad. The EV was designed by Wolfgang Egger, formerly of Lamborghini. And, looks it.So what does any of this mean to established automakers? Nothing good.BYD and other Chinese EV makers are currently amassing major factories in Mexico and fully plan on 'backdooring' the US Market with their cheapE Vs. So it's not hard to see the future.WWSJD? Jobs relentlessly forced Apple technology downscale, to ever smaller form factors, thinner substrates, and higher volume devices. This strategy assured that Apple accrued processional benefits before others, and that its products reflexively went 'upmarket' in terms of design, utility and market share. If it can work for Apple, why not the car design industry? It's certainly not easy being a DESIGN company. But, it may well be the only way out for auto makers suffering from rabid global competition and commoditization. It's also the only strategy I see that gives incumbents a (design) edge.JLR is now owned by Tata, so it certainly has the 'stroke to go down-market in price. If JLR were to call, I'd propose a 5 day charrette with their design studio, dividing the studio into 3 teams, and giving each a stripped Tata Sierra EV chassis. And one simple design brief... Mercedes-Benz is halting the development of its electric platform MB.EA-Large, as reported by the Handelsblatt newspaper. The project was one of the company's key future projects and was supposed to form the basis for the electrification of its luxury models, including the legendary S-Class. There are some major changes coming in how a new car will be build in the near future.Kia and Hyundai are introducing for example a new platform using the flexibility of Traction batterys and electric engines for more efficient space.If you will combine it with the future Traction Battery’s like Solide state (from Toyota /BMW/ Nissan) —> less weight, more energie dencity per kg and more loading cycles and more… we are getting to the point where the fossile (IC) cars can not compete anymore by far.Reliability will be of the highest level with “simplicity of building technology using lesser parts and only majer hardware like the Battery and the electric engines. Electric cars will last probably much longer than we heve ever known. Do not getme wrong now they are already good but these new technologies will boost up ⚡️🚘
